Dr. Toby began his academic journey at Baylor University, where he was honored as a Presidential Scholar, and later earned his medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He completed his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Arizona, then returned to Texas to pursue an Interventional Spine Fellowship at Texas Spine and Joint Hospital, Baylor—a renowned institution co-founded by Dr. Kevin Pauza.

Working closely with Dr. Pauza early in his career helped shape Dr. Toby’s advanced procedural skills and his understanding of biologic and regenerative approaches for the spine. After completing his fellowship, he went on to hold leadership and teaching roles at multiple institutions across the country, solidifying his national reputation as both a clinician and educator.

Dr. Toby is a highly regarded instructor for the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) and other medical organizations, where he trains physicians in advanced spine procedures. He has achieved the rare distinction of Master Instructor at the Pauza Spine Institute, where he routinely teaches neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, and interventional specialists how to perform the Discseel® Procedure with precision.

His expertise extends into emerging regenerative therapeutics as well. Dr. Toby serves as a co-investigator in multiple studies exploring fibrin and FDA-compliant exosome applications for spinal disc health, contributing to some of the most promising research in the field.

His clinical excellence has earned him widespread recognition, including a Five-Star rating from U.S. News & World Report and the Patients’ Top Choice Award, reflecting his exceptional patient care and outcomes.

Areas of expertise include:

  • Low back and neck pain
  • Disc-related conditions
  • Interventional spine procedures
  • Biologic applications for spinal disc health
  • Minimally invasive regenerative therapies
  • Physician training and surgical instruction

Widely respected for both his clinical skill and his dedication to advancing the field, Dr. Toby combines extensive spine expertise with a forward-thinking approach to biologic and non-surgical care.
